Lewis University Celebrates Winter Commencement

 Lewis University celebrated Winter Commencement ceremonies for more than 750 students December 13-15 on the university’s campus in Romeoville. The Winter Commencement ceremonies honor August and December graduates.

The celebration began Friday, with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences Recognition Ceremony as well as the College of Business Recognition Ceremony.

On Saturday, the festivities continued with the College of Aviation, Science and Technology Recognition Ceremony, College of Education and Social Sciences Recognition Ceremony and College of Humanities, Fine Arts and Communications Recognition Ceremony. Father Dennis Lewandowski, university chaplain, celebrated the Baccalaureate Mass. The President’s Reception for Graduates immediately followed Mass. 

On Sunday, the degrees were conferred in three different ceremonies. The degree ceremonies were streamed live at  by the Lewis University Television Network and Department of Communications. Visit http://www.sciencesimulations.com/commencement/ for more information.

Highlights included the presentation of the Lasallian Student Commencement Address by Carley June Patterson, who received a bachelor’s degree in Marketing.  Samantha Nicole Moffett, who received a bachelor’s degree in English/Secondary Education, was honored as the Father Aquinas Colgan Award recipient. The award has been given annually since 1955 to a student who has shown exemplary personal, intellectual and social development in the spirit of the Mission of Lewis University.

一道本不卡免费高清The Morning Undergraduate Degree Ceremony honored the College of Business and College Education and Social Sciences degree recipients. The Graduate and Accelerated Degree Ceremony honored students receiving doctoral degrees, certificates of advanced study, and master’s degrees, as well as graduates of adult accelerated programs.

一道本不卡免费高清The Afternoon Undergraduate Degree Ceremony honored College of Aviation, Science and Technology, College of Humanities, Fine Arts and Communications, and College of Nursing and Health Sciences degree recipients. During the ceremony, Dr. James Healy received an honorary doctorate degree.

一道本不卡免费高清For more than three decades, Healy served as the director of the Office of Family Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Joliet, Illinois, sharing his expertise and insight throughout the country and abroad. Healy retired in September, having served as an advisor to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Marriage and the Family. A highly-regarded speaker, writer, and consultant, both nationally and internationally, Healy has created widely-used writings on marriage, including “How to Be Married and Stay Engaged,” “Living Together and Christian Commitment,” “Spirituality and Religion in Your Marriage,” and “Making Happiness a Habit: Four Steps to a More Joyful Marriage.” 

Born in Decatur, Illinois and raised in Joliet, Healy entered the seminary as a high school student and continued through his college years at the College (now University) of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he received a bachelor’s degree in English with minors in theology and philosophy. Healy received his master’s degree in the social sciences from the University of Chicago and his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Illinois. 

Dr. Healy and his wife, Dr. Madonna Wojtaszek-Healy, who serves as a consultant for special needs to the Joliet diocesan Office of Youth Formation, have been married for 35 years and raised four children. They recently welcomed their first grandchild.
